Nursing division

UHI as you know it today, started as a simple cardiac clinic at Mulago Hospital in 1958. This journey began when we transitioned from a clinic to a fully-fledged facility i.e Uganda Heart Institute (UHI).

General Information

We offer 24 hour coverage to patients and coordinate with other disciplines to offer cardiovascular nursing care.

Nursing division operates under six units providing both inpatient and outpatient services. The division is being headed by Senior Principal Nursing Officer and deputized by Principal Nursing Officer to coordinate the Nursing activities.

Nurses have super specialization in cardiovascular nursing in the following specialties:
• Critical care nursing
• Coronary care nursing
• Theatre cardiac nursing
• Catheterization nursing
• And ECG

The core goals of the division are:

To prevent cardiovascular diseases through health education to communities.
II. To provide quality nursing care to cardiac patients.
III. To train nurses and other cadres in cardiovascular nursing.
IV. To conduct operational research.
